Environment Canada is forecasting that residents in Owen Sound, Ontario, should prepare for freezing drizzle and rain starting tonight, February 16, 2026, and continuing through the middle of the week. This unseasonably warm weather is expected to create icy surfaces on roads, sidewalks, and local docks as temperatures hover just above the freezing mark.

According to Environment Canada, there is a 40 to 60 percent chance of drizzle changing to freezing drizzle overnight. On Wednesday, February 18, 2026, the area could see periods of freezing rain or regular rain as daytime highs reach plus 1 or 2 degrees Celsius. These temperatures are much warmer than the usual mid-February high of minus 2 degrees.

The City of Owen Sound operates a 24-hour winter maintenance program to manage 280 lane kilometers of roads and 105 kilometers of sidewalks. If a Significant Weather Event is declared, the city warns that all municipal streets and sidewalks are considered to be in a state of repair, which means normal maintenance schedules may be delayed while crews work to clear the ice.

The ice glaze is also expected to make shoreline areas and docks exceptionally slippery for staff and boat owners. Those using the Georgian Shores Marina are encouraged to use extra caution when walking near the water and to exercise vigilance as the ice builds up.
