Property owners in Owen Sound, Ontario, must submit their first interim tax payment for the year by Friday, February 27, 2026. This deadline follows the recent approval of a budget that will see the average household pay about $18 more each month to cover city services, county costs, and education fees.
The City of Owen Sound reports that the total property tax increase for 2026 is 4.72 per cent. For a typical home, this adds up to an extra $214 for the entire year. These funds help the municipality provide services such as fire protection, police, and transit.
Residents can pay their bills through the Virtual City Hall online portal using a credit card. Other options include using a secure drop box at City Hall, mailing a cheque, or setting up automatic bank withdrawals. Anyone who misses the February 27 deadline will be charged a 1.25 per cent late penalty starting on the first day of the next month.
While the tax deadline remains firm, the City of Owen Sound has noted that February water and wastewater bills are currently delayed. Residents are encouraged to check their accounts online to confirm their balances and ensure their personal budgets account for the new tax rates.
