Residents in Owen Sound, Ontario, can expect a brief warm-up to 4 degrees on Friday, February 27, 2026, before strong winds and freezing temperatures move in overnight. This temperature spike is significantly warmer than the usual February high, which typically stays below freezing in the region.

According to Environment Canada, winds will gust up to 60 kilometres per hour, shifting from the southwest to the northwest after midnight. This shift will bring much colder air into the area and poses a high risk for a “flash freeze” as temperatures drop rapidly.

There is a 40 per cent chance of rain showers Friday evening that will likely turn into snow flurries as the temperature drops. The temperature is forecast to fall from 2 degrees at midnight down to -4 degrees by 6:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, which may cause wet surfaces to freeze quickly.

The City of Owen Sound public works crews will be monitoring 282 lane-kilometres of roads and 100 kilometres of sidewalks for icy patches. Drivers and pedestrians should watch for black ice on Saturday morning as the Friday afternoon melt freezes over during the night.
