The YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce is hosting a Lifesaving Sport Drop-In & “Explore” session for youth on Friday, January 17, 2026, in Owen Sound, Ontario. This event is designed to teach young people water safety and rescue skills through team-based activities in the pool.
The session is timed to give local students something active to do during their scheduled Professional Activity (PA) Day for the Bluewater District School Board. It will run from 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the YMCA Health, Fitness & Aquatics Centre, 700 10th St E, Owen Sound, ON N4K 0C6.
Participants will have the chance to try out Lifesaving Sport techniques such as obstacle swims, line throws, and mannequin carries. This special sport combines traditional swimming with practical rescue skills and equipment used in lifesaving sport competition and by professional rescuers.
These activities serve as a fun introduction to pool safety and function as a recruitment and training funnel for future lifeguards—helping the community build a cohort of young people who may eventually pursue lifeguarding. The program focuses on building confidence in the water while encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle for local families.
