A motor-vehicle collision on Kenmount Road during the evening rush hour on February 4, 2026, caused significant delays for drivers in Paradise, Newfoundland and Labrador. Local authorities said the incident occurred around 5:00 p.m. on the stretch of road between McNamara Drive and the Kenmount Road Extension.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) and emergency crews cleared the scene by about 6:15 p.m. (approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes after the initial reports), and officials confirmed no one was injured. The collision produced a Level 2 traffic backup — delays exceeding 30 minutes — and prompted community alerts advising drivers to consider alternate routes such as Topsail Road or Peacekeepers Way.
The traffic disruption comes amid an ongoing debate over local infrastructure. Mayor Patrick Martin has been publicly critical of the provincial government’s decision to cancel the proposed Kenmount Crossing hospital project, saying the development would have delivered road upgrades that could help ease congestion (see VOCM, Feb. 2, 2026).
The collision occurred in the same general area that was the focus of Phase I of the Kenmount Road Rehabilitation Project. Phase I began in April 2025 and ran through the fall of 2025, with work concentrated near McNamara Drive and the civic span up to approximately 1250. Town officials say they continue to pursue measures to improve traffic flow as Paradise grows, and they encourage residents to sign up for community alerts to stay informed about road delays and other notifications.
Authorities continue to monitor traffic on the Kenmount corridor and advise motorists to allow extra travel time during peak periods.
