Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Peguis, Manitoba, warning that a major storm will bring heavy snow and poor visibility starting Tuesday evening, February 17, 2026. The weather system is expected to drop between 15 and 25 centimetres of snow across the region, which will continue through Wednesday before tapering off on Thursday morning.
High winds are expected to cause blowing snow and make it very difficult to see while driving. Residents should prepare for travel delays on Highway 7 and local routes like Fish Road, which may affect school bus schedules and local deliveries.
This storm marks a sudden return to winter-like weather following a period of milder temperatures. While the Peguis area will see mostly snow, other parts of southwestern Manitoba may experience freezing rain as temperatures drop across the province.
The Peguis First Nation Emergency Operations Centre is monitoring the situation and encouraging people to allow extra time for travel. According to the Fisher River Cree Nation, residents should also prepare for potential power outages by keeping an emergency kit ready with flashlights, extra batteries, and a portable radio.
