Students from Peguis, Manitoba, can apply for new financial help for their schooling through a fundraising event happening this spring. The Treaty One Nations will host its third annual awards gala on May 26, 2026, at the RBC Convention Centre in Winnipeg to raise money for student bursaries and scholarships.
The money raised during the event will go directly into a fund that helps members of the seven Treaty One communities pay for tuition and living costs while they are in college or university. As the largest community in the group with over 10,000 members, Peguis First Nation students are among those eligible to receive these needs-based funds.
In addition to student funding, the Treaty One Awards will recognize local leaders in four different categories. These include the Promise Keeper award for youth under 30, the Nibwaakaawin award for knowledge keepers, and leadership awards for both women and men. Community members who want to nominate someone for these honours should do so quickly, as the deadline is expected to be March 26, 2026.
The gala has become a significant way to support the next generation of leaders while celebrating the accomplishments of current members. For local families, the program offers a way to reduce the high costs of post-secondary education through community-supported fundraising and sponsorships.
