On March 5, 2026, the Manitoba First Nations Police Service carried out several search warrants in Long Plain First Nation to find people who were avoiding arrest. Although community reports suggested two men from Peguis, Manitoba, were taken into custody, official police records identify only one man from the Long Plain area in connection with this event.
Officers from the Crime Reduction and Enforcement Unit worked with the local detachment to find three individuals who had been evading the police. During the operation, officers located 31-year-old Perry Nathan Whitford of Long Plain First Nation.
According to the Manitoba First Nations Police Service, Whitford was arrested on multiple outstanding warrants. These included charges for break and enter, theft under $5,000, and the possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000.
The police service has not confirmed any arrests of individuals from Peguis as part of this specific enforcement operation. The effort was part of a plan to improve safety by locating people with active arrest warrants in the region.
