On February 23, 2026, Billy Denault, the Member of Provincial Parliament for Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke, announced that the provincial government is investing in ways to make it easier for seniors to get around the region. The new funding is meant to help elderly residents who face mobility challenges use local buildings and services more easily.

This support is intended to make it simpler for seniors to stay active and live on their own in the community. By removing physical barriers like difficult entrances, the province hopes to help residents maintain social connectivity and stay connected to their neighbours and public spaces.

This latest investment builds on work from last year, when the Ontario government provided $172,245 for seven different senior-focused projects in the riding. That previous funding helped with local programs that were designed to keep older residents from feeling lonely or isolated.

Upgrades to make buildings more accessible are important for local meeting spots like the Pembroke 50+ Active Living Centre. The centre is currently celebrating its 50th year of providing programs and advocacy for residents in the area.

Denault, who was elected to represent the area on February 27, 2025, noted that making the community easier to navigate is a priority as the number of seniors continues to grow. He said the province is focused on ensuring that every resident can remain active and independent within their community regardless of physical mobility challenges.
