The Pembroke Multicultural Festival will return to the Pembroke Waterfront and Riverwalk Amphitheatre for its 11th annual celebration in July 2026. This two-day event, presented by the Pembroke Public Library in partnership with the City of Pembroke, continues its tradition of showcasing diverse cultural traditions, food, and artistry for the local community.
The festival has grown significantly since its origins in 2006, when it began as a small event featuring henna tattooing and traditional Indian performances. After being revived for the library’s centennial celebrations in 2014 and becoming an annual fixture in 2017, the event moved to its permanent outdoor home at the waterfront in 2022. This change in venue has allowed the festival to accommodate larger crowds, with the 2025 milestone anniversary attracting approximately 6,000 attendees to experience displays and performances representing over 39 cultures.
Organizers have built the event into a recognized regional success, receiving multiple honours including the 2023 Ottawa Valley Tourist Association Event of the Year Award and the 2023 Excellence in Tourism and Recreation Award. In recent years, the festival has featured a wide array of international participation, including performers from Iran, Mexico, Poland, Brazil, India, Sri Lanka, China, Turkey, and Zimbabwe. Past events have also hosted dozens of food and craft vendors, alongside interactive workshops focused on various global dance styles for children.
The festival receives support from the provincial government through the Experience Ontario program, which provided funding for the 2025 event. With the return to the waterfront this summer, residents can once again expect a gathering aimed at highlighting the diverse cultural landscape of the region.
