In Perth, Ontario, The Table Community Food Centre at 190 Gore St. E is seeking volunteers for its 2025–2026 season to support Food Skills, Garden, Youth and Community Navigator programs as rising food costs and high demand strain local resources.

Food Skills volunteers step into the community kitchen for programs like Budget Bites and FoodFit and help with community meals (served three times a week). Tasks include chopping and cooking ingredients, plating restaurant-quality meals and guiding participants through hands-on cooking techniques.

In the Garden program, volunteers help tend the community garden and the Daines Place Allotment. They plant seeds, maintain beds and lead workshops that teach neighbours how to grow and harvest their own produce.

Youth volunteers mentor children and teens through the centre’s after-school and other youth programs. The After School Program is open to children aged 8 to 11 and runs in 12-week sessions; other youth activities and summer offerings engage older teens and explore nutrition, cooking and social connection.

Community Navigator volunteers offer peer support to help people find housing, apply for income assistance or access energy-bill relief programs.

Last year, The Table served more than 22,000 meals, recorded over 13,444 volunteer hours and reported that 100% of participants in an impact study said they felt a stronger sense of belonging. Interested volunteers must complete a formal volunteer orientation; to sign up, visit The Table’s volunteer page.
