The City of Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, is hosting a free Family Day Carnival on February 16, 2026, to provide local families with a no-cost holiday outing. This community event will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Pitt Meadows Family Recreation Centre. The carnival aims to give parents and caregivers an affordable way to celebrate the provincial holiday together.
Families can participate in various activities including carnival-style games, an arts and crafts station, and a mini-gym for children. The recreation centre will also offer table games such as foosball, billiards, and air hockey as part of the morning festivities. These activities are designed to be approachable and fun for young children and their guardians.
According to the Winter 2026 Parks, Recreation and Culture Guide, this event is part of a plan to offer more accessible recreational opportunities for residents. The carnival has historically received grant support from the BC Recreation and Parks Association (BCRPA), which administers Family Day grants to municipalities; however, as of Feb. 10, 2026, the BCRPA had not yet confirmed the 2026 Family Day grant program.
Mayor Nicole MacDonald said these types of community events are a deliberate choice to help keep the community connected. The city funds the carnival through its operating budget and has in the past supplemented costs with provincial/BCRPA grants when available. The carnival is one of several efforts to maintain a high quality of life for those living in the area.
