Environment Canada is forecasting between 15 and 25 millimetres of rain and strong winds for Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, starting on March 3, 2026. This weather system is expected to bring southeast winds of 30 kilometres per hour, which may cause water to pool on low-lying streets and impact the morning commute.

The wet weather is expected to be a multi-day event, with periods of rain or showers predicted to continue until March 8, 2026. Local residents are encouraged to monitor their properties as extra runoff could put additional pressure on household drains and sump pumps.

According to the City of Pitt Meadows, about 85 per cent of the community is located within a floodplain. This low-lying geography means the city is more susceptible to the effects of heavy rain and relies heavily on its drainage systems to prevent local flooding.

To help residents stay informed, the city uses the Voyent Alert! system to send out real-time updates. These alerts provide information directly to phones or email accounts during major storms or other emergencies.

The city is also working to improve its flood protection with planned upgrades to the Kennedy and Fenton drainage pump stations in 2026. These projects are part of an ongoing effort to ensure the community is better prepared for heavy rainfall and rising water levels.
