A Maple Ridge city councillor and former federal candidate for the Pitt Meadows–Maple Ridge area is facing four counts of sexual assault. The B.C. Prosecution Service announced the charges against Ahmed Yousef (legal name Ahmed Antar Yousef Mohamed) on January 15, 2026. The development is significant for the Pitt Meadows–Maple Ridge community, where Yousef has been a visible local politician since his first election to council in 2018.
Special Prosecutor Claire Hatcher authorized the charges following an investigation by the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment of the RCMP. CBC News and CityNews report the charges involve two different complainants (three allegations involving one complainant and a separate allegation involving another).
Yousef has been on an indefinite leave of absence from his council duties since May 2025. At that time he was charged with multiple assault counts and firearms-related offences (including counts of pointing a firearm at another person and unsafe storage of a firearm) — those earlier charges were laid in May 2025. While he remains on leave, the City of Maple Ridge has said council business continues with the remaining members.
The case has renewed local debate about rules for removing elected officials who face serious criminal charges before a trial is complete. Yousef was the top vote-getter in the 2022 municipal election and previously ran as the Liberal candidate in the 2021 federal contest for Pitt Meadows–Maple Ridge. CityNews reports the new sexual-assault charges were filed in Port Coquitlam provincial court and lists a first court appearance; media organizations have noted the prosecution designated this matter as a K-file given the alleged intimate-partner nature of some allegations.
