The city of Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, has reached a significant milestone in local public safety as the new Pitt Meadows Royal Canadian Mounted Police detachment has been established. As of April 1, 2026, the former integrated service model has been separated into two independent detachments. While the new 19,000 square foot facility at 12486 Harris Road is constructed and the transition to an autonomous detachment has begun, residents should be aware that front counter police services are currently still being provided at the Community Policing Office located behind City Hall at 104-12027 Harris Road, Pitt Meadows. For non-emergency matters, residents can reach the local office at 778-670-9010, while emergency calls should continue to be directed to 9-1-1.

The transition to an autonomous detachment is designed to provide more focused policing for the community. With this change, the city will see an increase in staffing levels to five dedicated members per shift, up from the two previously assigned. Staff Sergeant Michelle Luca, who has served in the Lower Mainland throughout her career, has been selected as the first detachment commander to lead these local operations.

According to the City of Pitt Meadows, the project was funded within the existing police services budget, which accounts for 22.7 percent of the city’s operational spending, and did not require a property tax increase.

Although the detachment now operates independently for daily needs, specialized regional services such as homicide investigations, forensic identification, and emergency response teams will remain shared across the Lower Mainland district to ensure no interruption to high-level investigative support. A public open house is planned for the fall of 2026, giving community members an opportunity to visit the new facility and meet the officers and staff.

The move follows a multi-year process that began with a police services review in 2019 and received provincial approval in 2021.
