Drivers in Pitt Meadows who commute through the Fraser Valley are facing nightly travel delays at the Highway 1 and Highway 11 interchange in Abbotsford, which began on Monday, February 9, 2026. The Ministry of Transportation and Transit is changing traffic patterns at the junction to allow for tree clearing and site preparation for a major expansion project.
The on-ramp from southbound Highway 11 to westbound Highway 1 will be fully closed every night from midnight until 4:30 AM until February 19, 2026. Other lane closures on Highway 1 will start as early as 8:30 PM for westbound traffic and 9:00 PM for eastbound traffic.
Commuters from Pitt Meadows who travel south via the Golden Ears Bridge for late-night work or deliveries will be diverted south and must follow a short detour to get back onto the highway. Drivers must also slow down to 50 km/h in the construction zone on Highway 11.
These changes are part of a $242-million project to replace the Highway 11 junction and widen the highway in the area, a key phase of the broader Fraser Valley Highway 1 Corridor Improvement Program. For those looking to avoid the construction area entirely during late-night hours, Highway 7 is available as an alternate route.
