The Town of Ponoka is inviting families to spend time outdoors this Saturday, February 7, 2026, for the inaugural Winter Day in the Park at Lions Centennial Park in Ponoka, Alberta. This free event will take place from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and is intended to give neighbours a chance to gather for low-cost winter recreation.

Visitors can go skating on the winding ice trail, listen to music, and stay warm by outdoor fire pits. According to the Town of Ponoka, the celebration also makes use of the park’s light display, which features more than 500,000 lights and will run until the end of February.

Mayor Kevin Ferguson has said the town is focusing on investing in local parks and infrastructure to help the community grow and retain young families. The town’s 2026 interim budget prioritizes investing in maintaining and upgrading key infrastructure, which supports keeping local facilities in good shape for public use.

Andrew Jones, Manager of Parks, Recreation and Facilities, said, “The first annual Winter Day in the Park is designed to get people outside and enjoying our beautiful park assets during the peak of winter.” The skating trail was originally developed in late 2020/early 2021 as a collaboration between town operations crews and the Ponoka County East District Fire Department and has become a popular local attraction.

Lions Centennial Park is located at the corner of Highway 2A and 54 Street. There is no cost to attend the event, making it an easy option for families looking for weekend activities close to home.
