The Town of Ponoka, Alberta, has announced a four-day Winter Break Day Camp for children running from February 17 to February 20, 2026. The program is for children aged 6 to 12 and coincides with Wolf Creek Public Schools’ Reading Week following the Family Day holiday on Feb. 16.

Children will be based at town facilities — including the Ponoka Arena Complex and the Ponoka Aquaplex — for supervised activities such as sports, swimming, games, and arts and crafts. The town says the program is intended to keep local youth active and engaged during the winter season.

Families can register online through the Town of Ponoka Recreation Portal or in person at the Ponoka Aquaplex.  According to rdnewsNOW, the day-camp programming is designed to provide a supervised option for working parents who need childcare during the school break; registration for winter programming opened Dec. 1, 2025.

The initiative aligns with Mayor Kevin Ferguson’s stated effort to position Ponoka as a “winter destination” and follows the town’s Family Day activities on Feb. 16, 2026, which the town has promoted as including free community skating and swimming events.

Funding for these community services is included in the Town of Ponoka’s 2026 interim budget. Chief Administrative Officer Sandra Lund said the interim budget balances funding necessary for town infrastructure and services while aiming to minimize costs for taxpayers.
