Highway 4 will be completely closed in both directions between Port Alberni, British Columbia, and Cameron Lake on February 25, 2026, to allow for essential safety maintenance. The closure is expected to last six hours while crews remove dangerous trees and repair safety fences along the route.

The closure will take place from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM between Chalet Road and Aspeden Road, which is located near the Coombs Country Candy store. Maintenance teams will align roadside barriers and clear out debris areas to help prevent rocks from falling onto the driving lanes.

According to the District of Tofino, these safety measures are a response to slope damage caused by a wildfire in 2023. Residents and visitors travelling to the west coast of the island should plan to arrive before the closure or wait until the road reopens in the afternoon.

In addition to the full closure, drivers should watch for minor delays at Sutton Pass and Hydro Hill from February 17 to February 24, 2026. Crews will be on-site during those dates to perform shoulder repairs and ground studies.

Local officials from the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District have highlighted the importance of this work, as the highway is the only paved connection for the area. Previous extended closures at this location have caused over $61 million in lost revenue for local communities.
