On February 26, 2026, the Port Alberni RCMP will host a charity polar plunge at Sproat Lake Provincial Park in British Columbia to support Special Olympics youth and sport programs. The event begins at 10:00 a.m. at the park’s picnic day-use area.
This fundraiser is part of a province-wide effort in partnership with the Law Enforcement Torch Run. All money raised helps Special Olympics BC provide year-round health and sports programs for athletes with intellectual disabilities at little or no cost.
Residents can participate by signing up to take the cold dive or by sponsoring a participant. The community is also invited to attend the lakeside event to cheer on the officers and other local plungers.
The plunge takes place during the peak of the provincial fundraising season, which runs from February 21 to March 8, 2026. The event is held at Sproat Lake, which was voted the best lake in British Columbia in a 2023 CBC competition.
