Drivers in Port Alberni, British Columbia, are being warned of dangerous road conditions on February 6, 2026, due to thick fog. Environment Canada has issued a Fog Advisory warning visibility may drop to near zero, making it very difficult for drivers to see the road or other vehicles.
According to Environment Canada, the heavy fog is expected to last through the morning of February 6, 2026. Local experts at Alberniweather say a ridge of high pressure combined with the bowl-shaped Alberni Valley is trapping moist air near the ground, producing dense fog that is likely to persist through the morning and may redevelop overnight.
Conditions are especially risky on Highway 4 at the Port Alberni Summit, known locally as “The Hump.” DriveBC is monitoring highway conditions and webcams on Highway 4; Environment Canada warns visibility can be suddenly reduced to near zero in places along the Highway 4 corridor.
Environment Canada and provincial driving guidance advise drivers to slow down, use low-beam headlights (avoid high beams, which can reflect off fog and worsen visibility), and leave extra space between vehicles to reduce the risk of collisions in the poor conditions.
