Environment Canada lifted a fog advisory for Port Colborne, Ontario, on Monday, February 16, 2026, after thick fog created dangerous driving conditions throughout the morning.
The advisory was officially removed at 11:01 AM as visibility across the region began to improve. Officials had warned earlier that the fog was thick enough to make travel hazardous for residents and municipal road crews during the morning hours.
Weather data from earlier in the morning showed temperatures around -8.5 degrees Celsius with high humidity and calm winds. These conditions frequently cause heavy fog to settle over the local area due to the cold water of Lake Erie and the surrounding landscape.
Although the warning is no longer in place, the official forecast suggests that more fog patches will likely develop overnight on Monday. Residents are encouraged to stay updated on local conditions because visibility can change quickly even without an active alert.
According to safety tips from McDougall Insurance, drivers should use low-beam headlights or fog lights rather than high beams. Using high beams in thick fog can actually reduce visibility further by reflecting light back at the driver.
