The Main Street Bridge in Port Colborne is closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic starting Monday, May 4, until Thursday, May 7, 2026. The closure is part of a larger project led by the Niagara Region to bring water and wastewater services to the city’s east side employment lands.
According to the City of Port Colborne, motorists and pedestrians should expect to use detour routes while the bridge is unavailable. Signage has been placed throughout the area to help guide traffic during the four-day work period.
The project is part of a multi-year initiative that began in July 2025 and is expected to conclude in June 2027. The bridge being affected, known as Bridge 19, is a historic bascule bridge and serves as the only movable bridge over the Welland Canal in the city that carries heritage designation, according to Historic Bridges.
