A new inclusive takeout business has opened its doors in Port Colborne, offering residents simple meals and a welcoming environment designed specifically for families of autistic children. Located at 832 King Street, Stamatis’ Takeout was launched by local father Gus Loukas to provide a space where families can dine without the fear of public judgment.
The shop serves a variety of takeout options, including sandwiches and Greek-inspired dishes. As part of his commitment to the community, Loukas has introduced the Stamati Special, a free meal named after his son that is available to any child with autism under the age of 12.
Loukas, who has personal experience as a parent of a child with autism, stated that his primary goal is to foster an atmosphere where families feel accepted. In addition to creating an inclusive dining space, the business provides employment opportunities for people with autism or related needs. This approach aligns with broader provincial efforts toward inclusive workplaces, supported by organizations such as Ready, Willing & Able and Autism Ontario.
The opening of the shop comes as the provincial government continues to invest in support services for autistic individuals. According to the Government of Ontario, $965 million has been allocated to the Ontario Autism Program for the 2026-27 period, which includes $186 million in new funding.
