The Port Colborne Optimist Club gave $500 to each of the 10 elementary schools in Port Colborne and Wainfleet, Ontario, on March 8, 2026. This money will support student breakfast programs that help children get a healthy start to their school day.
The club members raised these funds through various community events and fundraisers held throughout 2025. These local efforts allow the organization to invest directly back into the health and academic success of area youth.
These breakfast programs rely on dedicated volunteers, including school staff and students who arrive early every morning without pay to prepare and serve the meals. According to the Port Colborne Optimist Club, the donation ensures that children have access to the nutrition they need to focus in class.
Claire, the club treasurer, was recognized for her work in managing and delivering the donations to the different school locations. The group has been active in the community since 1986 and focuses on projects that support local children.
