Port Colborne families can enjoy a free afternoon of safety activities and fun on Saturday, June 13, 2026, as Port Colborne Fire & Emergency Services hosts its annual Community Safety Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the fire hall on Killaly Street West.
The event offers hands-on learning for all ages, including a bike rodeo run in partnership with the Port Colborne Optimist Club. Kids who want to take part in the rodeo need to bring their own helmets, according to the city’s event page. Families can also check out interactive safety exhibits, climb aboard fire trucks, meet Sparky the Fire Dog, get their faces painted, and enjoy complimentary snacks and refreshments.
Fire Chief Stan Double, who took on the role permanently in February 2025 after serving as interim chief starting in December 2024, brings more than three decades of fire service experience to the department. Under his leadership, the composite service (a mix of full-time and volunteer firefighters covering 51 square miles and serving over 19,000 residents) has recently expanded. The department has added four new full-time firefighters, a dozen volunteer firefighters who will finish training by October 2026, a fire prevention inspector, and a training officer.
The Community Safety Day has become a staple in Port Colborne, returning each year to give residents a closer look at the people and equipment that keep them safe. By bringing together firefighters, the Optimist Club, and local families, the event turns important safety lessons into a welcoming community gathering.
