The Port Colborne Health Coalition is hosting a chili dinner fundraiser on April 20, 2026, to support ongoing efforts to preserve and improve local healthcare services. The event will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at The Guild, located at 72 Charlotte Street.
Tickets for the dinner are $20 each. Residents are encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance for the event, which is being held at the community venue also known for hosting the local Makers’ Market.
The fundraiser comes at a significant time for the community as the Port Colborne Health Coalition continues its mission to protect public healthcare under the principles of the Canada Health Act. Co-chairs Barb Butters and Betty Konc are leading the organization in its advocacy against the planned closure of the Port Colborne urgent care centre, which is currently slated to shut down in 2028 following the opening of the new hospital in Niagara Falls.
To address these healthcare challenges, the City of Port Colborne has committed $1 million over three years to help make a case for provincial and federal funding. This initiative includes working with KPMG Healthcare Solutions to explore potential alternatives, such as establishing an independently governed healthcare complex to serve the city.
