The City of Port Colborne, Ontario, has opened its 2026 summer recruitment cycle, seeking students to help run municipal services and maintain local parks during the 2026 season. To be eligible, applicants must be students who plan to return to school in the fall of 2026 and be available for full‑time summer work.
Students can apply for a range of outdoor roles — such as parks maintenance, grass cutting and roads work — or positions at busy waterfront sites including Sugarloaf Marina and Nickel Beach. Sugarloaf Marina lists over 700 slips and provides fuel and docking services; seasonal hires there assist with dockage, fuel services and guest relations. Seasonal staff are also used to manage high visitor volumes at the waterfront during the summer.
There are administrative and specialized summer positions as well, including roles at the Historical & Marine Museum and opportunities for planning and engineering students. The city moved to recruit early following adoption of the 2026 Levy, Capital and Rate Budgets (November 2025) and during the final year of the 2023–2026 Strategic Plan; the early hiring aims to have tourism and infrastructure services fully operational for the May long weekend (May 24, 2026).
Applicants have until January 31, 2026, to submit a resume and the Student Employment Application via the city’s career portal or the Student Employment Application form. Most seasonal positions require availability beginning around May 1, 2026, and continuing through Labour Day.
City officials say hiring seasonal workers helps manage infrastructure needs and the large crowds that visit the waterfront each summer. The city’s recruitment materials note these positions provide local youth with work experience and an opportunity to see how their contributions support the community.
