The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority issued a flood outlook for Port Colborne, Ontario, on February 17, 2026, due to expected rain and melting snow. A low-pressure system is bringing 20 to 30 millimetres of precipitation to the area, which could cause water to pool in low-lying spots and make creek banks unsafe. This safety alert will stay in effect until noon on Sunday, February 22, 2026.

While the agency does not expect widespread flooding, the combination of rain falling on existing snow will likely lead to fast runoff and higher water levels in local streams. The City of Port Colborne is monitoring major drainage paths like the Beaver Dams Drain and Wignell Drain as water levels rise. Officials are specifically watching the King Street area, which has a history of flooding when water from the lake pushes back into the storm sewer system.

Residents are encouraged to help prevent water backups by clearing debris from their storm drains and culverts. People should stay away from all local waterways and slippery banks until the weather conditions improve later this weekend. The conservation authority and the city will provide updates if the flood risk changes.
