On April 6, 2026, the City of Port Colborne Water and Wastewater Department conducted emergency repairs on a water service line along Steele Street, prompting temporary road closures and service disruptions for local residents. The emergency work took place between Charlotte Street and Division Street, with the roadway closed to traffic until approximately 5 p.m. that day.
As a result of the ongoing activity, residents in the immediate area were warned that they might experience low water pressure or discoloured water. The City of Port Colborne manages the local distribution system, which carries drinking water provided by the Niagara Region after it is treated at regional facilities using water drawn from the Welland Canal.
The Steele Street area has a noted history of infrastructure challenges. The disruptions echoed a severe winter incident on January 24, 2022, when public works crews had to respond to four separate watermain breaks in the neighbourhood—three of them located directly along Steele Street—in a single day.
