The Government of New Brunswick signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) on March 4, 2026, aimed at strengthening the provincial power network and improving electricity reliability for residents across the province, including in Quispamsis. The plan focuses on developing a national electricity infrastructure to improve how power is shared between provinces.

Deputy Premier and Energy Minister René Legacy joined leaders from seven other provinces and two territories in Toronto to sign the agreement. The MOU creates a framework for building better power lines across the country, which helps provinces support each other during times of high energy demand.

For New Brunswick residents, this long-term cooperation is intended to stabilize the power supply and could reduce the frequency of outages. By expanding the capacity of electricity transmission lines, the province can more effectively manage energy and ensure a steady flow of power to homes and businesses.

Minister Legacy described the province as the “backstop” for energy in Atlantic Canada because it already has power connections with Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. This new national project builds on those existing links to help modernize the electrical grid for the long term.
