Starting March 10, 2026, families in Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, can participate in a new community program designed to help parents and children learn together. The Uvagut Program is hosted by Ilitaqsiniq and is open to parents, caregivers, and children between the ages of 8 and 12.
The workshop series focuses on improving communication and parenting skills by combining traditional Inuit knowledge with modern practical lessons. These sessions are intended to provide a dedicated space for family members to grow their bonds while supporting the local community.
Ilitaqsiniq, which was formerly known as the Nunavut Literacy Council, is a non-profit organization that has provided skill-based education since 1999. The group works across the territory to offer programs that are rooted in culture and hands-on learning.
This initiative is part of a larger effort to expand community-based programming throughout the Kivalliq region. By offering the workshops in Rankin Inlet, the organizers hope to give families a consistent and culturally relevant environment to develop new skills together.
