On February 25, 2026, students and staff in Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, will wear pink to support Pink Shirt Day, a national anti-bullying initiative. The Department of Education is encouraging schools and communities across the territory to take part in the event to foster safe and caring learning environments. This year’s campaign focuses on the Inuit societal value of Inuuqatigiitsiarniq, which refers to showing respect and caring for others.
Local schools in Rankin Inlet taking part include Leo Ussak Elementary School, Simon Alaittuq School, and Maani Ulujuk Ilinniarvik. Students will participate in classroom discussions and activities designed to support mental health and prevent bullying. Minister of Education David Akeeagok has called on parents and community members to join the effort by wearing pink on Wednesday, Feb. 25.
Workers in the community have traditionally supported the day through the Nunavut Employees Union. In previous years, the union has encouraged its members to share photos of themselves wearing pink for a chance to win “swag bags” as part of a community-wide stand against harassment in schools and workplaces.
