Red Deer families can start Westerner Days morning with full stomachs and big smiles at a free pancake breakfast downtown on July 15, 2026. Family Services of Central Alberta is hosting the community meal from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. at its main office, 5409 50th Avenue, getting the fair day going before the 9:30 a.m. parade passes by.
The breakfast is a casual, family-friendly way to take in the Westerner Days kick-off, which runs July 15 through 19 at Westerner Park. The non-profit, which has supported Central Alberta families since 1970, will also have games, crafts and western-themed activities for kids during the meal. A separate youth organization, Youth HQ, will flip its own pancakes nearby from 8 to 10 a.m. that same morning.
Before parade day, Family Services of Central Alberta is throwing a Fun Fest of the Wild West at Parkland Mall on Sunday, July 12, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The free event includes carnival games, crafts, photo stations, activities and prizes, giving families a first taste of fair fun. Both gatherings are designed to be accessible to everyone in the community.
Westerner Days itself traces its roots to the first Red Deer Fair in 1892. What began as an agricultural showcase has grown into a week-long celebration with a parade, chuckwagon races, midway rides and live entertainment at Westerner Park. The 2026 edition runs from July 15 to 19.
