The Rotary Club of Red Deer Sunrise in Red Deer, Alberta, has successfully turned a $28,000 local donation into more than $105,000 to fund health, hunger, and education projects in rural Uganda. The funding was multiplied through matching contributions from the Rotary Foundation and the Government of Canada to help three specific villages improve their daily living conditions.

The money went toward “Adopt a Village” initiatives that focus on making long-term changes rather than providing short-term aid. Local club members have been personally involved in the process, including five members who travelled to Uganda in 2009 to inspect the first project site and find more ways to help the region.

According to project details from the Rotary Club of Red Deer Sunrise, the total allocation for these international efforts reached $105,735. These projects are part of a larger history for the group, which has raised more than $1 million for local and global causes since it was first formed in 1999.
