Residents in Red Deer will be able to purchase compost from the Waste Management Facility starting May 4, 2026. The facility is bringing back the popular service after supplies completely sold out during the 2025 season.
The compost available for sale is produced through the city’s Green Cart and yard waste collection programs. By processing organic materials locally, the city provides residents with the opportunity to use finished compost in their own gardens, effectively closing the recycling loop.
Due to limited supply, there is a purchase limit of four cubic yards per household for the season. Compost is priced at $15 per cubic yard for loose material loaded into a truck, or $3 for a 19 by 30 inch bag for those who wish to fill their own. In addition to the compost, the facility currently has mulch available for purchase, which is created from diverted evergreen branches.
The Waste Management Facility is located at 1709 – 40 Avenue. Summer operating hours are Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The facility is closed on Sundays. Residents who have questions regarding the compost and mulch sales can call the city’s Blue Line at 403-340-BLUE (2583).
