The Society of the Friends of the Red Deer Public Library is encouraging residents in Red Deer, Alberta, to sign up for memberships on March 02, 2026, to support local library services. These memberships help pay for popular activities like the Summer Reading Club and the Book Bike, which brings library materials to parks and community events.
A yearly membership costs $10 for an individual or $20 for a family. Members receive a blue reusable shopping bag and get to enter the library’s large book sales earlier than the general public.
The money raised by the group provides funding for community kits and the First Thursday Concerts. Last year, the group used the money from its spring membership sales to fund the 2025 Kids’ Summer Reading Club.
Residents can also support these programs by shopping for used books at the Tom Stevens Friends Book Shop located in the lobby of the Downtown Branch. The Red Deer Public Library also accepts donations of gently used books, DVDs, and magazines at the downtown location, though they do not accept textbooks or encyclopedias.
