A 29-year-old man from Red Deer, Alberta, faces several criminal charges following a random mid-day assault on the Gaetz Avenue Service Road. The Red Deer RCMP reported that a victim was shot at close range with an airsoft gun on February 3, 2026.
The victim, who did not know the attacker, suffered injuries that were not life-threatening during the incident at approximately 1:25 p.m. Police investigators were able to identify the suspect using unique belongings left at the scene and made an arrest in the downtown area the following day.
Jaydyn Lovelace is now facing seven charges, including assault causing bodily harm and discharging an air gun with intent to wound. He is also charged with possession of a prohibited firearm, forgery, and possession of identity documents.
Lovelace was released from custody on specific conditions and is expected to make his first appearance at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on March 4, 2026. Local police remind residents that replica firearms are treated with extreme gravity and can result in serious legal consequences if used to threaten or harm the public.
