Mayor Cindy Jefferies delivered her first State of the City address on March 9, 2026, to share her vision for Red Deer, Alberta. Speaking to about 200 local leaders, the Mayor highlighted the city’s progress while pointing out the need for more provincial support to help the community keep up with its growth.

The event was organized by the Red Deer District Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with BILD Central Alberta and the Red Deer Construction Association. During her speech at the Red Deer Resort & Casino, Jefferies raised concerns that provincial funding for local projects like roads and buildings has dropped from 3.7 per cent to just one per cent of the province’s total spending. She noted that this represents roughly $1.3 billion less in annual investment for community infrastructure.

The Mayor also focused on the importance of finding ways to handle the city’s homelessness crisis and the need for more housing. Jefferies explained that the city is working to balance its economic development goals with these social challenges to remain a strong part of the regional economy along the Highway 2 corridor.

Jefferies, who was elected as Mayor in 2025, used the address to connect city hall with local builders and business owners. The discussion helped set the stage for upcoming budget decisions and highlighted the city’s plans to build a stronger community through local partnerships.
