Environment Canada is calling for showers and a chance of thunderstorms in Red Deer, Alberta, on Monday, July 20, 2026, along with widespread smoke that could affect afternoon conditions. No weather alerts are in effect, but residents should be aware of changing air quality and the potential for storm activity.
The forecast shows mainly cloudy skies with a few showers beginning this morning. There is a risk of a thunderstorm this afternoon, and widespread smoke is expected to move in. Winds from the northwest at 20 km/h gusting to 40 km/h will become light later in the morning, then shift to north 20 km/h gusting to 40 km/h near noon. The high temperature will reach 21°C, feeling like 26°C with the humidity, and the UV index is 3, or moderate.
At 9:00 a.m. MDT, the Red Deer Regional Airport weather station reported cloudy conditions with a temperature of 14.8°C, 87% humidity, and west-northwest winds at 17 km/h. Visibility was 16 km.
The Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) was at 2, or Low Risk, as of 8:00 a.m. Monday. However, it is forecast to rise to 4, or Moderate Risk, during the day and reach 7, or High Risk, Monday night and into Tuesday. The worsening air quality is due to wildfire smoke drifting in from fires in northern Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories.
A warming trend is on tap after Monday’s unsettled weather. Tuesday is expected to be sunny with a high of 25°C, Wednesday sunny and 28°C, and Thursday sunny with a high of 31°C before cooling to 27°C on Friday.
