Redcliff and Cypress County are under a yellow heat warning as a long stretch of hot weather settles over southeastern Alberta. Environment Canada issued the alert early Tuesday morning and says daytime highs will climb well above normal all week.
The hottest day is expected Saturday, with a forecast high of 39 C. The rest of the week will see daytime temperatures between 31 and 34 C, while overnight lows will only dip to around 14 to 18 C, offering little relief from the heat.
The normal high for late July in the area is about 28 C. This week’s temperatures are running three to 11 degrees above that mark. The warning covers the area including Redcliff, Bowell, and surrounding parts of Cypress County.
Environment Canada is asking residents to take care during the heat wave. People should drink lots of water and try to move outdoor activities to the cooler morning or evening hours. The agency also urges everyone to check on neighbours who may be more at risk, such as seniors, young children, and those with existing health problems.
The prolonged heat is part of a wider pattern bringing hot weather to much of southern and east-central Alberta, as well as parts of southwestern Saskatchewan. The warning is expected to stay in place through at least Saturday.
