Regina has a new Provincial Court judge. Suzanne Lalonde was appointed to the court in Regina on August 14, 2026, the Government of Saskatchewan announced.
Lalonde has been a staff lawyer with Legal Aid Saskatchewan since 2008, focusing on criminal defence and helping people with complex challenges. She earned her law degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 2000 and was called to the Bar in 2001. She was named King’s Counsel in 2023.
She has also been active in the legal community, serving as a Bencher of the Law Society of Saskatchewan since 2018 and as its president in 2024. Lalonde has volunteered with several local organizations, including Pro Bono Law Saskatchewan, the John Howard Society, Phoenix Academy, and Diversified Services.
Lalonde is one of five new judges appointed across Saskatchewan. The other four will serve in Moose Jaw, Yorkton, Saskatoon, and Prince Albert. These positions were created in the provincial budget to help reduce wait times in courts.
Justice Minister Tim McLeod said the new judges will strengthen the court system. “These new judges have demonstrated a deep commitment to the law, to public service, and to the communities they serve,” he said. “Their appointments will enhance the strength and capacity of Saskatchewan’s Provincial Court and support fair, accessible, and effective justice for people across the province.”
The March 2026 provincial budget included nearly $269 million for the Ministry of Justice and Attorney General to improve access to justice.
