The City of Regina, Saskatchewan, is now accepting applications for a grant program that helps local groups build or improve accessible playgrounds for children. This 2026 initiative offers a total of $160,000 to non-profit organizations that want to create play spaces where children of all abilities can play together.

Groups interested in the funding have until April 9, 2026, at 4 p.m. to submit their plans to the city. The program is designed to help meet a community goal of having an accessible playground within 800 metres of most homes in the city.

Once a project is approved, the new or upgraded playground must be finished and open to the public by June 1, 2028. Ward 5 Councillor Sarah Turnbull, who has been a major supporter of the program, says the initiative is a way to ensure public spaces are welcoming for every family.

The Accessible Playground Grant focuses specifically on community-managed spaces rather than school grounds. This funding is part of a larger effort by the municipal government to prioritize modern accessibility standards in local parks and recreation areas.
