The Town of Renfrew says Ontario’s reworked Blue Box system will take full effect on Jan. 1, 2026, shifting responsibility for residential recycling from municipalities to producers under provincial regulation. The system will be administered province-wide by Circular Materials.

The town says curbside recycling for homes will continue, with collection days and bin types expected to remain the same initially. Residents can expect an expanded list of accepted materials, and future recycling calendars, sorting guides and collection contacts will be provided by Circular Materials rather than the town.

The town notes that businesses, not-for-profits and other non-residential locations are not automatically included in the new residential program. At a Dec. 9, 2025 council meeting, council moved to enter an agreement in principle with Miller Waste Systems to provide recycling collection for those locations while the town continues to handle garbage and yard waste.

Residents are being directed to town communications and Circular Materials’ Renfrew page for updated calendars, accepted-items lists and local service contacts as the Jan. 1 transition approaches.
