The Town of Renfrew posted a notice on December 1, 2025, saying winter parking is now in effect: from December 1 to March 31 vehicles must be kept off town streets and certain municipal parking lots during overnight hours so snow‑clearing crews can work safely. The notice applies town‑wide and carries enforcement and penalties for vehicles that obstruct plows or snow‑removal equipment.

Note an important discrepancy residents should be aware of: the Town’s public news post and local outlet Renfrew Today (96.1) state the overnight ban runs from 12:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m., while the consolidated Parking By‑law No. 29‑2012 (consolidated) and the Town’s Winter Road Maintenance page state the prohibition is from 2:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. The by‑law, in Section 13(1), also lists the municipal parking lots covered: Plaunt Street Lot, Town Hall Lot, Argyle West Street Lot and Argyle East Street Lot, and Schedule F lists streets with limited permit exceptions.

Enforcement: By‑law Enforcement Officers and the Director of Development and Works (or their designate) are authorized to enforce the restriction, issue Parking Infraction Notices and arrange removal/towing where necessary. The Town’s news post and local coverage cite fines “between $30.00 and $66.00,” but the consolidated Parking By‑law Appendix (Appendix 1: Set Fines) lists the winter‑parking offence (Section 14(1)) with a voluntary payment of $20.00 and a set fine of $30.00. The $66.00 figure does not appear in the consolidated by‑law and is unverified; confirm with the Town Clerk or the Director of Development and Works whether the higher amount reflects administrative fees, an updated set fine for this season, or is an error in the notice.

Residents who normally park on the street overnight should move vehicles onto private driveways, a permitted municipal lot, or arrange a permit if eligible (see Schedule F). For confirmation or an on‑the‑record statement about the enforced overnight start time and applicable fines, contact Town Hall at 613‑432‑4848 or the Director of Development and Works via the Town’s Roads/Winter Maintenance page (contact: dw@renfrew.ca). The Town may also post temporary or emergency parking prohibitions with special signage; monitor the Town’s winter‑parking news page and local media for any updates.
