Families in Rimbey, Alberta, can enjoy a free evening of public skating at the Vern Poffenroth Memorial Arena on Sunday, February 15, 2026. The event is being organized by Rimbey Community and Recreation Services to kick off the Family Day long weekend celebrations.

The free session will run from 4:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and is open to everyone in the community without the need for tickets or registration. The Vern Poffenroth Memorial Arena is located at 5109 54 Street and is housed within the Peter Lougheed Community Centre (Keyera Place).

This holiday activity is designed to provide a no-cost way for neighbors to get together and stay active during the winter season. The arena is named in honour of Vernon “Vern” Poffenroth, a local pioneer who was instrumental in establishing the town’s minor hockey system.

Residents who have questions about equipment or specific safety policies — the Town of Rimbey website notes that helmets are strongly recommended — are encouraged to call the Recreation Services Office at 403-843-3151. More information about local community facilities can also be found on the Town of Rimbey website.
