The Town of Rimbey is reminding all property owners that outstanding 2025 property taxes must be paid in full by December 31, 2025, to avoid penalties and having balances reclassified as tax arrears. Unpaid balances are reclassified in accordance with the Town’s 2025 Property Tax Bylaw (Bylaw 1012/25), and penalties/interest on arrears take effect on January 1, 2026.

Payments can be made through online banking by adding “Town of Rimbey Taxes” as a payee (online payments must be completed by midnight on December 31), in person at the Town Administration Office (4938 50th Avenue) during regular office hours (until 4:30 p.m.), or by mail if the envelope is postmarked no later than December 31. The Town generally does not accept credit cards directly; residents may be directed to third-party payment services (for example, OptionPay has been used in the past). Please check the Town of Rimbey Finance & Taxation page or call the town office to confirm which third-party options and fees apply for 2025.

After January 1, 2026, unpaid tax balances will incur the penalties and interest rates set out in the Town’s tax bylaw. If property taxes remain in arrears for three consecutive years, the municipality may move the property toward a public tax sale process under Alberta’s Municipal Government Act — a process governed by provincial legislation but carried out by the municipality, which Rimbey has historically scheduled in September for qualifying properties.

For questions, ratepayers can contact the Town of Rimbey Finance & Taxation department via the Town website or by calling the town office. Paying on time helps ensure the municipality can fund local services and infrastructure for the year ahead.
