Residents and visitors have until September 7, 2026 to enjoy free admission at Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site before regular fees resume on September 8. The change comes as the Canada Strong Pass promotion wraps up after offering free entry to all Parks Canada locations since June 19, 2026.
The Canada Strong Pass has provided free admission and 25 percent off camping and overnight stays at participating sites across the country. At Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site, that means visitors have been able to explore the remains of four fur trading posts built between 1799 and 1875 without paying the usual adult fee of $10.00 or senior fee of $8.50.
After September 7, front country camping at the site will return to $31.75 per night, while tipi and Métis trapper tent camping will cost $86.50 per night. Trapline cabins will go back to $147.50 per night. Youth aged 17 and under continue to receive free admission at Parks Canada places, a policy that has been in place since January 1, 2018.
The historic site, managed by Parks Canada, is located 6 km west of the town of Rocky Mountain House on Highway 11A. It preserves a key location in Canada’s fur trade history and its association with explorer David Thompson and the Blackfoot peoples, particularly the Piikani.
Visitors do not need to download or show any pass to take advantage of the promotion. Those planning a trip are encouraged to arrive before September 7 to avoid admission fees, as regular pricing takes effect the following day.
