Maxime Bergeron and his wife Sophia launched Cafe Flora at 325 Fernwood Road on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, during its opening weekend from February 20 to February 23, 2026. The new business takes over a historic building that once housed the Fernwood Cafe and more recently served as a wine-tasting venue.

Maxime Bergeron comes to the new cafe with a decade of restaurant and coffee shop experience across Australia, New Zealand, Quebec, and Tofino. For the last 18 months, he has been a well-known face at the local bakery Francis Bread in Ganges.

The return of a casual cafe to this location follows community interest from residents like Allen Schoen, who advocated for the space to once again serve as a neighborhood meeting spot. The new owners hope to provide a reliable morning and lunch option for locals and visitors near the Fernwood Dock.

According to the local reporting, the cafe is currently open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. every Friday through Monday. These shoulder-season hours are designed to serve local residents and early-season tourists visiting the area.
