Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, is expected to see a week-long stretch of persistent rain and potential ferry delays starting March 15, 2026. The shift toward more consistent wet weather may impact road conditions and marine travel across the region.
According to The Weather Network, the island is forecast to receive between 5 and 10 millimetres of rain daily from March 15 to March 18, 2026. This rainfall can cause water to pool on low-lying roads and may contribute to travel disruptions for commuters and residents.
Ferry travel may be further complicated by the ongoing Otter Bay Terminal Life Extension Project on nearby Pender Island. BC Ferries is currently working to upgrade and extend the life of the terminal, which serves as a key hub for routes connecting Salt Spring Island to the mainland and other Southern Gulf Islands. Construction is not expected to be finished until March 27, 2026.
The combination of wet weather and terminal construction increases the risk of travel interruptions. People are encouraged to check for service updates through BC Ferries or the Transit App before heading to the terminal or starting a trip.
